About Lumen Reading Tutors

Our Philosophy

At Lumen Reading Tutors, we believe that every student has the potential to succeed. We strive to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that empowers students to reach their full potential and achieve their goals. Dyslexia is not just a hurdle; it is a unique way of processing information that can be harnessed into strength. We also understand the time constraints families face, so we go the extra mile (literally) by traveling to you, making scheduling easy and convenient.

Our System and Methods

Our tutors use the Barton Reading and Spelling System. It is an Orton- Gillingham based program that is a structured language approach (click here to learn more about what Orton-Gillingham)

Our system is a multi-sensory, direct, explicit, structured and sequential program designed for intense intervention.

Financial aid through private schools plays a crucial role in providing children with the tailored education they need to thrive. As a dedicated mother of four, I’ve personally faced the challenges of raising children with dyslexia and specific learning disabilities. My journey led me to the Barton Reading and Spelling Program, where I found effective solutions to support my children's educational needs. This experience inspired me to become a certified Barton tutor, and I’ve since used these specialized methods to homeschool children of all ages. Beyond my family, I’m passionate about helping other students as well, offering one-on-one tutoring and homeschool support. I understand the heartbreak of watching a child struggle, and I’m here to make a difference by guiding students toward newfound confidence and joy in reading.

Learning Programs for Lumen Reading Tutors

Initial Phone Consultation

Begin your journey with a complimentary and informative phone consultation. During this session, we will discuss the specific needs of your student, including the level of support required, as well as scheduling and cost considerations. This conversation is designed to ensure that our services align with your expectations and goals.

Assessment and Level Placement

Following the phone consultation, a time will be scheduled for an in-depth assessment. This assessment allows us to determine the current reading level of your student and identify areas where they may need additional support. Based on the results, we will place your student at the appropriate level within our tutoring program.

Structured Tutoring Plan

Once the assessment is complete and level placement is determined, we will proceed with the Barton Reading and Spelling Program as it was created. in a multi-sensory, direct, explicit, structured and sequential order to greatly improve your student’s reading and spelling skills.

Regular Tutoring Sessions

With the tutoring plan in place, regular sessions will begin. These sessions are designed to engage and motivate your student, using a variety of techniques to enhance reading comprehension, fluency, and vocabulary.

Ongoing Progress Evaluation

Throughout the tutoring process, we will continuously evaluate your student's progress. This ensures that the tutoring remains effective and adjustments can be made as necessary to maximize success.

Feedback and Communication

We believe in keeping open lines of communication with parents and guardians. You will receive regular updates on your student's progress and are encouraged to provide feedback to help us further tailor our approach to best meet your student's needs.
